One of our favourite cheap activities to do at Christmas is to walk around looking at all the Christmas houses which have put up decorations to raise money for charity. But who wants to drive around aimlessly in a search for the best ones? We certainly don’t. So for the third year in a row I’ve put together the Milton Keynes Kids guide to the most Christmassy houses in and around the local area. The residents will have gone to great effort to put up the lights, and I do this blog for free, so please promise me one thing if you go to any of them, take lots of spare change with you to donate to all the good causes. Don’t just drive by. Park on a nearby road, stop and donate some cash. Do bear in mind that these are just tips, apologies if for whatever reason the lights aren’t on when you get there. If you find this list useful then do let everyone know what you thought of the lights by posting your photos in Milton Keynes Kids discussion group.

Looking for even more cheap and fun places to take the children over Christmas and New Year? Here’s my ultimate guide for 2019.

Summerhayes, Great Linford, Milton Keynes, MK14 5EX

One of the best Christmas streets in the whole country is in Milton Keynes! Every year the residents of a residential street called Summerhayes in Great Linford decorate their houses in crazy Christmas lights and decorations. It’s all to raise money for Willen Hospice Milton Keynes. This year the SWITCH ON DATE IS SATURDAY 7TH DECEMBER at 6.30PM – there will be an ensemble from the Woburn Sands Band. The lights are then on every night throughout December between approximately 4.30pm and 10.30pm. The best postcode is MK14 5EX but you need to park on nearby roads rather than driving into the cul-de-sac. PLEASE TAKE A DONATION! The last few years you have helped them collect around £10,000 each year which is incredible! Lets see if we can help them smash that amount this year.

Kennington Close, Newport Pagnell MK16 0NJ.

The Kennington Close Christmas Lights in Newport Pagnell will be switched on SUNDAY 1ST DECEMBER and the SNOW MACHINE will be back! How fabulous. Last year the residents of this cul-de-sac collected £5677 from you donating cash to visit – all the money raised went to Willen Hospice Milton Keynes and Age UK Milton Keynes and I imagine they’re hoping to collect even more this year. The snow machines will be weather and resident availability dependent – but the plan is for them to be in use on Saturdays in December and on Christmas Eve. It’s one of the best Christmas streets in the whole country – so make sure you visit and donate some money to these fabulous charities. You can visit every day in December – the lights go on around 4.30pm-5pm. There is no special switch on event for these ones but I’m told the lights on 1st December go on around dusk. The address is Kennington Close, Newport Pagnell MK16 0NJ.

31 Lime Street, Olney, MK46 5BA.

One of the most stunning Christmas houses locally that we love is this one in Olney. LIGHTS SWITCH-ON 5PM, SUN 24TH NOV. Santa, elves, mulled wine, mince pies. Take lots of cash for Willen Hospice Milton Keynes. The address is 31 Lime Street, Olney, MK46 5BA. This is what it looked like a couple of years ago. It’s very beautiful in the day too as it has some delightful decorations, so if you can’t get there at night then it’s worth popping along in the day too.

Vandyke Close, Woburn Sands, MK17 8UU

One house in Woburn Sands, Milton Keynes. The residents are collecting for Brain Tumour Research. They collected just under £100 last year, and were delighted. The lights go on usually for 5pm and off again at 9.00pm. They are only in a small close so parking isn’t fantastic but there’s usually some space to stop. They have a collection pot, it’s the postbox for Santa’s letters.

Hollow Wood Road, Burton Latimer, Kettering, NN15 5RB

Not one we’ve been to, but it’s come highly recommended, the lights will be on from Sunday the 1st December and running until New Year. Lights on from 4pm until 10pm and parking is free next door at Bosworth garden centre (follow the signs) where they do a take out menu for anyone that is in need of a coffee and or food. Over the last two years they’ve raised an incredible £17,000 for charities. This year they’re supporting The Air Ambulance, Burton Latimer Scouts, Burton Latimer Guides and other smaller charities.

15 Torrington Road, Wellingborough, NN8 5AF

One house owned by the Beetsons. We haven’t visited this one but the pictures were fab. Switch on is Saturday 30th November from 4pm . It’s raising money for Glamis Hall –  a day centre for the elderly and a community space for all They’ve raised £28,600 since collections began in 2007. Keep an eye on their facebook group for updates.

Vienne close, Duston, Northamptonshire, NN5 6HE

Not one we’ve been to, but it looks fab if you’re local to Northamptonshire. This one is in Duston, Northamptonshire and the residents are raising money for the air ambulance. The address is Vienne close, Duston, NN5 6HE. Lights on from 4pm-10pm every day between now and New Year’s Day. You can park outside their house. There’s a collection box by the front door or if you don’t have any change then here’s the link to their just giving page
