There’s going to be a new splash park in Milton Keynes. It’s going to be at Willen Lake and is set to open in June this year. This isn’t exactly new news. It was announced last summer that there was going to be a splash park but no timeline was set. Well now the Parks Trust have said that it’s going to form part of £2million worth of improvements at the lake. There’s also going to be a new coffee and ice cream kiosk, increased toilet facilities, and a new, surfaced car park offering an additional 300 spaces. Additional natural play features will be installed and grass areas within the site will be re-landscaped. They say it should improve the space available for play, picnics and events. We’re very excited at addition of a splash park for MK. Our closest at the moment are in Leighton Buzzard, St Albans and in Wellingborough. You can find them all on the splash parks section of my website. They’re brilliant free places for the kids to cool down during the height of summer and people will travel some distance to them. We don’t know yet what this splash park will look like or what size it’ll be. I do really hope though that it’ll be a good size with lots of floor jets and fun overhead sprinklers. I also really hope there’ll be enough loos and the additional parking spaces will cope with demand. It would also be beneficial for it to be set near trees which can offer shading for younger siblings and set in a grassy area with plenty of space for picnics. Parks Trust take note! I reckon it’s going to be incredibly popular whatever it’s like. Construction work starts later this month. The north bay car park will be closed temporarily and you should use the south car park behind the gym, pub and Premier Inn. I’ll update you when I hear more news or see anything that resembles a splash park.
