It’s November so now it’s perfectly acceptable to talk about Christmas… and Santa, yes?! Well you’d better start thinking about Santa specials if you have a son or daughter who loves trains. There are quite a few in the area and several have been taking bookings for some time. Caldecotte and Summerfields are miniature trains you can sit ON. The others are big trains you can sit IN!

Caldecotte Miniature railway has a Santa Special 5/6 December and 12/13 December – keep an eye out on their website or facebook page for more details. On a normal day April to October you go a couple of times around a track. It’s near Caldecotte Lake and there’s a park there as well. Find out what we’ve thought about the train previously here.

The Summerfields Miniature Railway near Haynes also has a Santa special on the weekend of 5th / 6th December. We enjoyed our visit there back in May – you can read about it here. They’ve been taking bookings for some time and when I last checked it was sold out on the 6th. Ring Tony or Judy on 01494 439098 to check to see if they have any availability.

One of our favourite days out this year was to the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre for a day out with Thomas. In fact we actually went twice because toddler liked it that much. It’s not the cheapest day out, but is a special treat. Read all about our adventure here. They have a number of days this year where you can also meet Father Christmas – Nov 28th / 29th, 5th / 6th / 12th / 13th Dec. You can pre-book the time and your tickets on their website.

One train that we haven’t yet been on (but really want to!) is the Leighton Buzzard Railway – they’re also running santa specials. Lots of choice of dates – the first three weekends in December as well as Wednesdays that month and Tuesday 22nd. It can apparently be popular for end of term visits. One train has already sold out so have a look at their website for details and booking info. There will also be a special event on the Marston Vale line on 12th December – they seem to be very good at updating their facebook page with details of special events.
