Summerhayes in Great Linford in Milton Keynes is a very special street. It’s quite possibly one of the best streets in Milton Keynes, if not the country, for Christmas lights. Most of the houses in this cul-de-sac, as well several nearby are lit up in the most incredible way. If you’ve never heard of them before then watch the video below and then scroll down to carry on reading…

The video is a bit wobbly and windy, but you get the idea. That was 2015. The residents do it all in aid of Willen Hospice and there are collection boxes outside the houses. After I posted about it on facebook last year that video went around the world and the publicity contributed to loads more of you visiting than the previous year and the residents raised more than double what they usually do – from memory it was more than £8700. Well I have some exciting news! The date for this year’s switch-on has been announced – it’s 3rd December at 6.30pm. Save the date! We can’t wait. If you want to go on that night it will be REALLY BUSY so get there early to park. MK14 5EX gets you to Summerhayes itself. You can not park on that street, so aim for there but don’t turn in to the cul de sac – park on a nearby street that you can out of.

Summerhayes Lights

The lights will be on in the evenings for a number of weeks so there will be plenty of opportunities to see them. It’s FREE obviously but please, please, please take cash with you and give generously, I hope they’ll raise even more this year. If you do one thing with the kids this year then go there. There are other houses in MK and surrounding areas that do fab lights as well, I’ll let you know about those in due course so make sure you subscribe to my blog (details below) if you don’t already. If you can’t make the switch-on don’t worry, the lights are on every evening up to and including New Years Eve. They are generally all on by 5pm each night and go off at 10.30pm. Have fun!
