There are loads of exciting things to do around Milton Keynes and the surrounding counties at the moment. I thought I’d pick out three FREE events happening the weekend of 30/31st July that look like good fun. The beach is back at Centre MK. The shopping centre has imported 100 tonnes of sand to create it. It opens 30th July and is there until the 4th September. There are rides too but you pay for them. There’s also punch and judy shows on selected dates – check out the Centre MK website for details. In previous years we have found the beach great fun on rainy days. It can get busy though. (Picture is of preparations on 27th July – there’s more to come!)

Dunstable Kite Festival

Let’s go fly a kite! I’ve not had so much fun as I did recently when we took my 3 year old to Dunstable Downs to fly the new kite he got for his birthday. It was brilliant. It was windy but warm and we laughed so much running around. It’s beautiful up there and only costs £2 to park. There’s a lovely visitors centre too with modern café. Anyway if you don’t have a kite but love watching them then the Dunstable Kite Festival is on 30th and 31st July. Professional kite teams put on show-stopping displays. There are activities and entertainment as well. Free, parking charges apply. 11am – 5pm. Keep an eye on the Dunstable Kite Festival facebook page for the latest news.

My 3 year old loves firefighters. We play firefighters at least once a week. Usually it involves him pretending to put out a fire on the grill because I’ve burnt the sausages or rescuing Hiro our cat from the roof. Needless to say the prospect of meeting real firefighters, sitting in a real fire engine and using a real hose gets him very excited. We loved the fire station open day at Olney a few weeks ago. On Sunday 31st July it’s Broughton’s turn. MK10 9AP is the best postcode. Bucks Fire advise you to park near the Harvester in Fox Milne. If you can’t make this one, there are plenty of others in Beds and Herts over the summer, and one in Bletchley in September – take a look at my list of fire station open days.
