What is Urb Farm?

One of our best discoveries in 2016 was Urb Farm in Wolverton in Milton Keynes. It’s home to Growing People – a horticultural social enterprise working with disengaged young people to grow organic, seasonal, fresh fruit, veg, salad and flowers for the local community. It’s not open to the public most days but about every three months they put on a fab FREE event which is worth going to. At the previous two events my 3 year old did pond dipping, made a bird feeder, played in the mud kitchen, danced to live music, and had fun stroking the chickens. Each event is different and if you’re looking for somewhere fun and outdoors to take young children for a couple of hours then do go and support them. When we visited they had hot drinks, hot dogs, cakes, seasonal produce and some plants – the amount of food did vary at each event though, so although it’s free do take some cash with you to support them and a picnic if your children haven’t eaten already and are expecting to. Thanks so much to Milton Keynes Kids facebook follower Alisa for the gorgeous pictures featured on this page.

When can you visit Urb Farm?

The dates for 2017 are:

Sat 22nd April – 11am – 2pm – pond dipping, bug hunting, nature painting, plant a seed, nature trail, meet the chickens, mud kitchen, make bird feeder. Small charge for face painting.

Sat 10th June – 1pm – 4pm – Farm Fest – Locally sourced BBQ, beer and cider, live music, local food and craft stalls, homemade cakes, face painting, free forest school activities, design and print your own canvas bag (charge applies)

Tues 25th July – 1pm – 3pm *** EXTRA SPECIAL EVENT *** Forest school activities – natural bubble wands, mud and clay modelling, make your own bird feeder, tree painting, scavenger hunts, toast marshmallows on a fire. Urb Farm desperately want to raise money to buy a traditional tipi for their forest school project, so that they can have campfires and storytelling inside when the weather takes a turn for the worse. This is a pay by donation event – so do take some cash (whatever you can afford). All of their other events are free so this is a fab way to give something back to say thank you whilst still having a fun couple of hours out with the kids.

Sat 16th September – 1pm – 4pm – Honey day – adopt a bee, look in an observation hive, bee-related crafts and activities – FREE entry. I’d suggest you do take some cash with you as there will be honey / honey sandwiches for sale and face painting. Food has been limited at some of the events we’ve been to, so take a picnic / snacks if the children haven’t eaten already and need to.

Sat 14th October 1pm – 4pm.

I’ll update these details when I know more.

How do I find Urb Farm?

Urb Farm is located on 196-198 Windsor Street, Wolverton, Milton Keynes, MK12 5DR. However the organisers suggest you park on Marron Lane (MK12 5DE) which is off Gloucester Road one of the main roads leading to Wolverton. It runs parallel to Windsor Street which is where the farm is located. The farm is then a short walk down a redway to the farm and will be easily seen. They will put up signs and arrows to point you in the right direction. This is where we have parked and it’s literally a couple of minutes away.
