Leighton Buzzard Splash Park
When it’s hot, there’s one place locally that I can guarantee the kids will absolutely love playing at – Leighton Buzzard Splash Park. Well I call it that, it’s actually just a part of Parsons Road Recreation Ground. The splash park is a large square of brightly coloured tarmac and it’s enclosed by a fence although the gate is opened and closed a lot. Water jets in the ground then squirt water out and the kids run through the water… or jump.. or sit… or splash. Imagine those fountains that you get in some town centres – like that. They will get soaked so definitely put them in swimwear and take a towel and sun lotion. There’s very little shade immediately in front of this area where people tend to sit to watch the children so just bear that in mind if you have small babies. Trees at the side of the park do offer shade.
If your children love sand then make sure they take a bucket and spade there’s a good size ‘beach’ there. There’s a park too with a zip line, a few climbing frames, swings and other equipment. It’s a bit old school but my toddler had fun playing there. Parsons Road Recreation Ground is free to enjoy but you will need to pay to park. You can park near the shops and walk but we found the best car park is Duncombe Drive which is immediately behind the park. At the time of writing it cost £1 for 2 hours, £2 for 3 hours, £3.50 for 5 hours and £6.50 for 10 hours. There are brown signs up which direct you to the park. However, just bear in mind then on busy days you won’t stand a chance of parking there, so do allow time to park in the town centre and then walk over.

I'm Laura, mum of two boys - aged six and four. I started this website at the end of Sept 2015 whilst on maternity leave. I now work four days a week and do this blog late at night once the little boys are sleeping. It's won several awards over the last four years and I continue to run it for free and mostly focus on free, cheap, and good value days out. Do drop me an email laura@miltonkeyneskids.com if you want to contact me. Don't forget to follow all of our latest adventures on facebook, instagram and twitter and have a look at all of the videos of the places we visit on the Milton Keynes Kids YouTube Channel - subscribe to it for notifications every time I add a new place. And remember... you may been reading this post months after we visited, do check with the destination you're visiting for up to date opening times and prices. If you find this blog useful then please do comment on my posts and leave me a Facebook review - it makes doing this all the more worthwhile.
