A free festival that the kids can enjoy in Milton Keynes… wahoo! The Milton Keynes International Festival runs 15th-24th July. We have already enjoyed the Magic Carpets at the Centre MK but it took my husband to remind me that there’s been loads going on at Willen Lake this week too and we should really take a look as it’s practically on our doorstep. We weren’t disappointed. There are a number of shows there that run throughout the day. Our favourite was The Fantastical Flying Exploratory Laboratory by Les Enfants Terrible which is set on a hot air balloon flying machine. My 3 year old loved it as ‘they made pumping noises which made me laugh’ his words not mine.

There’s a few nice food stands. He enjoyed eating a hot dog, hubs and I had burritos. Baby boy was asleep – unlucky. He did have dinner by the way, just when we got home. There’s a bar and acoustic music. Wine was £4.50 for 175ml. Draught beer £5 a pint. There were quite a few traditional wooden toys that loads of the children were enjoying playing with. The pink signage reminded me of London 2012. If you aren’t local to MK then Willen Lake also has a nice play area which you can see the pictures of on my previous blog post. Fab atmosphere, great fun, made me proud to live in MK, get down there if you read this in time… we were a bit late to the party but there’s still time to enjoy it. Parking charges apply. Get the timings for all of the shows in the Milton Keynes International Festival website.

I'm Laura, mum of two boys - aged six and four. I started this website at the end of Sept 2015 whilst on maternity leave. I now work four days a week and do this blog late at night once the little boys are sleeping. It's won several awards over the last four years and I continue to run it for free and mostly focus on free, cheap, and good value days out. Do drop me an email laura@miltonkeyneskids.com if you want to contact me. Don't forget to follow all of our latest adventures on facebook, instagram and twitter and have a look at all of the videos of the places we visit on the Milton Keynes Kids YouTube Channel - subscribe to it for notifications every time I add a new place. And remember... you may been reading this post months after we visited, do check with the destination you're visiting for up to date opening times and prices. If you find this blog useful then please do comment on my posts and leave me a Facebook review - it makes doing this all the more worthwhile.
