This is Christmas Street. It’s real name is Summerhayes and it’s in Great Linford in Milton Keynes. 13 residents cover their houses in Christmas lights to raise money for Willen Hospice. The lights are switched on at 4.30pm and stay on until 10.30pm every night up until New Year’s Eve. Watch the video below to take a walk around the street and then scroll down for more information including the postcode.

It started years ago when some of the residents started putting up a few lights in their windows and then each Christmas it became competitive amongst the neighbours. In 2003 they decided to come together to raise money for charity. Last year alone they raised more than £8700. This year the lights were switched on 3rd December, more than 700 people turned up and an incredible £950 was collected. Thousands of people from across Milton Keynes and surrounding areas now travel to the street to see the lights during December. A giant inflatable Santa is among the highlights as it provides some great photo opportunities for families. If you do one this this Christmas with the kids then take them to Summerhayes. It is free but PLEASE take cash with you to put in the collection boxes. MK14 5EX gets you to the street but DON’T TURN IN, instead park on the surrounding roads being careful not to annoy residents and then walk up. Some of the houses on neighbouring roads also have lovely lights up. Have fun!

I'm Laura, mum of two boys - aged six and four. I started this website at the end of Sept 2015 whilst on maternity leave. I now work four days a week and do this blog late at night once the little boys are sleeping. It's won several awards over the last four years and I continue to run it for free and mostly focus on free, cheap, and good value days out. Do drop me an email laura@miltonkeyneskids.com if you want to contact me. Don't forget to follow all of our latest adventures on facebook, instagram and twitter and have a look at all of the videos of the places we visit on the Milton Keynes Kids YouTube Channel - subscribe to it for notifications every time I add a new place. And remember... you may been reading this post months after we visited, do check with the destination you're visiting for up to date opening times and prices.
